Learn more about our faculty, students and programs, including experiential education and international opportunities. The selection is based on the most convincing circumstances. Recipients will be highly talented potential law students with very high financial needs. Osgoode`s historical and contemporary role in diversifying and transforming the legal profession is unparalleled. Our admissions policy recognizes, promotes and celebrates excellence and equity. We consider academic results and Law School Admission Tests (LSAT), significant achievements, and the ways in which social inequality affects students with proven abilities seeking a legal education. We do not require all Aboriginal applicants to complete the summer program at the University of Saskatchewan as a first-year entry requirement. If you receive an unconditional offer of admission, participation in the Indigenous Law Centre`s summer program is optional, although we believe it is a great way for all new Indigenous students to prepare for law school and create a peer support network across the country. If you have successfully completed at least 1 year at another law school, you can apply to proceed to the second year of the Young Women program at Osgoode Hall Law School.
Each law school evaluates each section of your application differently when you make final admissions decisions. This will play an important role in your application process and should be considered. All this information can be found below in one of the links below for the university you are interested in. The second and third years of the program offer students the opportunity to design a unique curriculum that includes various course offerings. In addition to choosing from a wide range of lectures and seminars ranging from traditional law to cutting-edge law, students can earn credits to participate in clinical programs, competitive or skills competitions, international exchanges or summer study programs abroad, supervised individual research, or participation in a recognized graduate course at another faculty. Students may also study one of four optional streams (international, comparative and transnational law; litigation, dispute resolution and administration of justice; Labour law; and tax law). Osgoode is committed to improving the representation of Indigenous peoples in the legal profession and encourages Indigenous candidates to apply. Anyone applying in the Indigenous class must provide documentation proving their identification and connection to an Indigenous community. This may include a demonstration of service, commitment or leadership within the community, on Indigenous issues or in Indigenous circles. If the admissions committee determines that the documentation submitted is insufficient, your file will be considered as an application in the General category.
For more information on applying as an Indigenous nominee, as well as Indigenous programs, faculty and student life, see Indigenous Nominees. Yes, Osgoode Hall accepts students from all over the world. Osgoode Hall is considered an excellent law school for international students. Our diverse and talented students embody a variety of academic, social, cultural and professional experiences that contribute to the richness of our Juris Doctor (JD) program and the dedicated, vibrant and intellectual community for which Osgoode is known. As a successful candidate, you will be asked to choose the study programme in which you wish to begin your studies. Although these preferences are taken into account in the best possible way, the faculties of both schools reserve the right to determine the initial programs. We are prepared to admit a limited number of applicants as non-graduate students if their law degree and experience are assessed by the National Accreditation Committee (NCA). To complete a conditional offer of admission, you must obtain a positive recommendation for admission to law school from the Director of the Aboriginal Law Centre`s Summer Program. Upon successful completion of the program, you will not only complete your conditional offer of admission to Osgoode, but you will also automatically receive an extended permanent credit for the first year of real estate law at Osgoode. In addition, an educational credit equal to the value of the Osgoode Property Law course will be applied to your student account.
In order for your Indigenous nominee file to be considered, you must provide documentation confirming your identification and connection to your Indigenous community. In particular, we will carefully consider your service and your commitment or leadership in your community, in Indigenous affairs or in Indigenous circles. In our experience, these markers of solidarity and the ability to support others in your community correlate with academic and extracurricular success in law school. Our admissions policy encourages students to identify the barriers they face when entering the legal profession. We are committed to opening doors to communities that have traditionally been underrepresented in the legal profession. In creating each class, we look for those who can demonstrate intellectual achievement and a passion for learning and service. We welcome applications from individuals who have demonstrated their ability to successfully complete the Young Women program through the length and quality of their non-academic experience. Osgoode Hall is considered one of the best law schools in Canada and is also one of the hardest to reach, according to statistics from law schools in Canada. The school is among the top 50 law schools in the world, and an Osgoode law degree is highly valued. Osgoode Hall is also an excellent choice for international students who wish to study law in Canada. You must have completed at least 1 year of a common law program that the Admissions Committee deems to be the essential equivalent of the Osgoode program for the first year.
Our program includes courses in Canadian criminal law, contract law, tort law, property law, Canadian constitutional law, civil procedure law, legal research and writing, and Canadian legal ethics. If you have not yet completed 1 or more of these courses, you must do so as part of Osgoode`s high school program. If you have not already done so in your first year of law school, you must also meet the Aboriginal and Aboriginal law requirement.
